Made In America Festival 2015: The Pre-Game

Made In America 2015

Gas up the van and cue the hip-hop playlists; we’re going to Budweiser’s Made In America festival. In it’s fourth year, Jay-Z brings heavy hip-hop and R&B to the Benjamin Parkway in Philadelphia and we couldn’t be more ecstatic. With a star-studded lineup headlined by Beyonce and The Weeknd, we can expect this year to create some beautiful moments. Here are some of the artists we can’t wait to see, and the songs we’re pumped to hear:

Vic Mensa

The Chi-town emcee went from underground sensation to Roc Nation signee to Kanye collaborator in one short year, and he’s not afraid to rub it in, “You mad, huh?” With his debut album Traffic in the works, the Cobain-inspired lyricist looks to capitalize on the international success of his latest releases. We’re excited to hear:

“U Mad,” “No Chill,” “Feel That,” and “Down On My Luck,”

Modest Mouse

Indie rock fans unite! The vibrant sounds of the band that brought us “Float On” released their first album in eight years, Strangers to Ourselves. Now they’re bringing the vibe to Made In America. One of the older acts in the lineup, look for an enormous shift in mood as fans find their way to their performance. We hope they play:

“Float On,” “Dashboard,” “Lampshades On Fire,” and “The World At Large”

Action Bronson

Mr. Wonderful brings his unique blend of jazz, Turkish rock and hilarious lyrical prowess to Philly. “Why you think [he’s] always acting crazy,” we’re going to find out. Whether he’s handing out Bam Bam body slams, running through the crowd or using a portapotty during his performances, the Queens rapper is certain to be entertaining. We’re praying he raps:

“Baby Blue,” “Actin’ Crazy,” “Brand New Car,” and “Easy Rider”

Death Cab For Cutie

“I will follow you into the dark” is easily one of the most recognizable songs in indie rock history. Sandwiched between Nick Jones and Bassnectar, look for the emotional lyrics of the Ben Gibbard to resonate with the crowd, maybe even evoke a tear or two. Known for their unconventional song structure and bizarre guitar riffs, we can’t wait for them to play:

“I Will Follow You Into The Dark,” “Black Sun,” “Transatlanticism,” and” Soul Meets Body”

Saint Motel

They might be one of the lesser-known acts at the festival, but not for long. Following the success of their hit single “My Type,” a slick, retro, bouncy record, the California indie pop band started touring and they haven’t stopped. We hope to see some throwback antics this weekend, maybe even a saxophone solo. We’ll have our phones ready to record:

“My Type,” “Cold Cold Man,” “Benny Goodman”, and “Puzzle Pieces”

The Weeknd

Need I say anything? One of the industry’s biggest rising stars at the height of his popularity croons onto the stage. With Beauty Behind The Madness doing remarkable numbers and “Earned It” and “Can’t Feel My Face” dominating the radio charts, the quiet Canadian singer looks to dazzle fans on top of an immensely talented lineup of artists. We’re hyped to sing along to:

“Wicked Games,” “Can’t feel My Face,” “Earned It,” and “Often”

J Cole

The only artist in twenty years to go platinum without a single feature takes the intricate yet simple sounds of 2015 Forest Hills Drive to Philadelphia. When he’s not housing single mothers, attending a fans graduation or performing $1 dollar shows, Cole is bringing the meaning back to the lyrics. The crowd should be electric. We’re excite to rap our hearts out to:

“No Role Modelz,” “Apparently,” “A Tale of 2 Citiez,” and “She Knows”

Beyonce

Queen B, in the flesh, the “single ladies” are going to lose their minds. Maybe it’s her beautiful skin, her beautiful voice, her beautiful dancing, we don’t know. Either way the music world wouldn’t be the same without the magnetic persona of Beyonce. Before she was the “hottest chick in the game wearing [Hova’s] chain” she was leading Destiny’s Child and a generation of independent woman. Now, she’s a mother and still headlining a major festival. We’re pumped to hear:

‘Drunk In Love,” “Crazy In Love,” “Single Ladies,” and “Halo”

We could go on all day picking out our favorite artists from this jam-packed lineup. There’s DJ’s we want to see too, but we have to pack our bags and mentally prepare. Made In America looks like it’s going to be an event for the ages. We’re ready, are you?
