Over The Influence is presenting new works by Nagano-based artist Hikari Shimoda in her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong titled, Can Pop Art Show The Way to Nirvana?. Shimoda’s works, influenced by Japanese anime and manga, are colorful mixed-media pieces that feature bright colors and doe-eyed, child-like characters that veils the dark undertones of her paintings. Influenced by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant accident in 2011, Shimoda’s work marries cuteness and horror in pieces that are inviting — but also disarming.
An opening reception for Shimoda on Wednesday, January 30 fro 6 to 8 pm at Over The Influence Hong Kong.
