M+B Photo is pleased to present “Silver. Skate. Seventies.”, an exhibition of black and white photographs by Hugh Holland. Coinciding with the show’s opening will be M+B Photo’s new exhibition space opening in Hollywood. In Holland’s new body of work, audience members become witness to never-before-exhibited archival images. The exhibition will include some of his earliest photographs, documenting the rise of California’s skateboard revolution in the 70’s. “Silver. Skate. Seventies.” opens todays and will continue to run until January 31st, 2018.
The photographs feature images of Southern Californian skateboarders skating in emptied suburban swimming pools. Holland’s work adds a raw and spontaneous element in comparison to his better-known color photographs of the 70’s skate scene. “These early black and white images were in many ways the genesis for his later color works—providing us with a rare glimpse behind the creative curtain.”
