“Home is not a place, it is an irrevocable condition.” Taking inspiration from this James Baldwin quote, Home Is Not a Place combines works to attempt to explore the positions and feelings often associated with finding “home”. In doing so, this exhibit combines multiple artists’ takes on exploring their sense of place among social backdrops that hinder that, featuring the works of Jordan Nassar, Faith Ringgold, Salman Toor, and Cosmo Whyte. These works depict real histories of finding home, imaginations of “home” that could be, the significance of land + feelings of place, and stories of diasporic movement. Together, this exhibit tells the complex tale of finding “home” in America as minoritized citizens.
