Critical Resistance, in partnership with Artsy presents, Imagine Freedom – Art Works for Abolition, a 2020 benefit auction. Artists Ruben Ochoa and Paul Mpagi Sepuya individual creations will be up for auction, alongside many others. The Silent Auction is open for bidding until October 14th, while the Live Auction will be on October 13th. As a grassroots organization, Critical Resistance is working to end systemic racism through abolishing systems such as prisons, policing, and surveillance that disproportionately affects Black people and people of color.
Imagine Freedom – Art Works for Abolition, comes at a crucial time in America’s history where there is a mass political and social understanding of the racist history of police and prisons in the United States and how it has impacted Black people and people of color for generations. Proceeds of the auction will go towards Critical Resistance’s initiatives to organize and expand their work during this pivotal time. Exhibiting artists will receive up to 30% commission on the sale of their creation.
