Tyler Mitchell’s first presentation with the Jack Shainman Gallery will be part of an online exhibition titled, On Black Joy, that debuted on September 28th. Mitchell’s work focuses on images of Black communities and individuals engaging in joyful activities. It will be featured with other gallery artists such as Kerry James Marshall and Nina Chanel Abney. In 2018, Mitchell photographed Beyoncé for the 2018 September cover of Vogue, which is now showcased at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, ultimately jumpstarting his career. Mitchell’s first physical representation of his work at the Jack Shainman Gallery, is planned to debut in 2021 and feature new work.
