Recognized almost anywhere in the Western world they are classic, hip and undeniably cool. For this reason Dr. Martens have been a style staple for many fashion arbiters in the past, present, and looking forward, will continue being so in the future as street savvy style individuals again want and desire these iconic shoes.

Born from the WWII army boot the Dr. Marten has come a long way from it’s trench trekking days but that’s not to say the brand has lost it’s relevance. During the brands original development the boot was revolutionized and made popular among consumers for there unique air cushioned sole. This made them hot ticket items for such service workers as postman, policemen, or factory workers. Later they became popular amongst skinheads, Goths, and fans of anarchy. The rapid adoption of the brand by such groups tarnished its image well into the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s as the preferred brand of often rebellious under ground scene-sters.

Now as 2009 kicks into full swing the old boot appears to be slowly creeping back onto the radar of the style conscious. You can see them out side probably right now, walking down Lafayette street on styled out kids doing looks for kicks, in the fashion spreads of 10, POP, V magazine, et cetera, on the fashion celebrities –i.e. Kate Moss, Erin Wasson, and to solidify the trend; the high end low end collabos that have emerged as of late. Think the Stussy/Dr. Marten collobo back in January with their toughed up combat ready suede, perfect for the guy at war in the office, or maybe not, the more interesting and most recent being the Raf Simons/Dr Marten collabo

which has produced several interestingly designed shoe/sandal hybrids in the form of lace ups’ and slid on’s, there are also great oxfords for the guy not willing to go bare just yet. Then for the really fashion adventurous, you have the Dr. Marten Primal Pascal

8 eye Boot, which come in a range of blindingly bright primary colors- red, blue, yellow, and green. I find these great for adding pizzazz to a look or just bighting up the day.
