Hernan Lander FW2010
Inspired by architectural structure and femininity, designer Hernan Lander’s Fall/winter 2010 Collection mixed the two subtly with draped skirts and leather trimming with a hidden pop of color.

Beauty Watch: Effortlessly Chic at BCBG
One thing I will always love about BCBG, as soon as you slip on something from this designer, you are instantly pulled together. The asymmetical aesthetic for Fall 2010 needed a hairstyle that would seamlessly finish the look. John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh created the bun that is super easy to replicate:
- Apply John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease Take Charge Mousse to dry hair and blow dry using your fingers to create texture.
- Pull hair back in a low ponytail and apply Root Awakening Strength Restoring Smoothing Lotion to ends. Wrap hair around to create a twisted bun, leaving the ends out to create a fringe. Or, you can tuck the ends in and have a look just as polished.
John Frieda products are available at mass retailers nationwide.

Beauty Watch: Susan Cianciolo + Christopher Drummond

Designer Susan Cianciolo collaborated with Make-up pioneer Christopher Drummond during FW2010 fashion week and created a dramatic yet functional look that even you can achieve.
According to Christopher, “When Susan and I were talking about the look, it was very organic, literally. Her clothes are organic, and my makeup is organic-based. We took her idea of the vibrant colors that are displayed under the sea and translated them onto the face. The result was lines and stripes of blended bright colors that melted together.”
Here are the steps Christopher used to create the look:
- Concealer was applied to the face with Christopher Drummond Beauty (CDB) Velduo Velvet Foundation over it. Christopher covered the eyebrows with concealer as a base for the eye color
- Next, Christopher dipped his angled eye shadow brush into a color that would work for the model. He drew a thick, angled line from above the brow to the lashes, in one swipe. He repeated this until he had the desired color saturation. He used various colors that he thought would be interesting and used three to five different color strips on each eye
- On the bottom lashline, Christopher used one color from the outer corner to the middle, and another from the inner corner of the eye to the middle, and then blended the two together so there were two liner colors on the bottom
- Instead of using mascara, Christopher allowed the eyeshadow color to fall on the lashes to create a beautiful, dramatic, multicolored eyelash.
- Finally, Christopher painted the lips with concealer to finish the look.
And here are Christopher’s tips for translating the look from the runway to the street:
- Pick three subtle colors that you like, and place the CDB natural cocealer as a primer all over the eyelid
- Separate the eyelid in three even sections with a liner brush and a small amount of shadow (kind of like a stencil)
- Next, take a medium amount of the shadow, and press it into one section. Blend it in well.
- Do the same with the other two sections

NYFW: Never Say Never Benefit Fashion Show

Finding out someone you know and love is HIV positive is never easy. The connotation with the disease is not a positive one; unless you are dealing with a positive person. Kanaar Larique, Fashion Designer and Stylist extraordinaire, has come out with the news and instead of letting the disease carry him, he has decided to carry the disease with his head held high straight to Fashion Week. The Fashion show, held at Retreat last night, was certainly uplifting as drinks and donations were flowing through the crowd. Check out the event.

NYFW: Diego Binetti FW 2010

The collection was inspired by Diego Binetti’s travels to the Far East.
“I want this collection to be magical; I want the Binetti woman to feel my touch and see my vision through my elaborate garments,” says the designer.

Beauty Watch: Costello Tagliapietra FW10
One thing I love about Fashion Week; it keeps you months ahead of the trends to come!

Nelson Vercher of the Rita Hazan Salon was the lead stylist of the Costello Tagliapietra show, and created the “Modern Geisha” look that perfectly complimented the looks on the runway. Nelson says,
“There’s a Geisha influence, but it’s not too literal-it’s modern and young, but still elegant.”
This up-do is big on volume, but not on fussiness. It also has a very etheral feel to it, amazing for the upcoming looks of spring.
To take this look to the streets, the only products you will need are a volumizer and hair spray.
- Spray volumizer to the roots of dry hair, set with velcro rollers and set for a few minutes.
- Remove rollers, tease for volume. Brush hair upwards, but you don’t want it to finished, leave it a tad undone.
- Twist and pin in a high knot, and finish with a strong hold hairspray.
Who says there’s no reality in fashion?
